Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We couldn’t be more excited to get started with you! Below you will find an assignment and vital information!
New Music Student Assignment – If you are new to the Music Program at South, please fill out this form with a parent/guardian by Friday, September 8. Link to Form: Information Form This information is for our communication and record keeping systems we use in the South Music Program.
Choir Handbook/Syllabus – We have a Choir Handbook that students need to review with a parent. This includes information on uniforms, classroom expectations, and forms that must be turned in by September 20. The forms can be found at the end of the handbook. Link to the handbook: Choir Handbook/Form
Remind – We use the Remind App to Contact Students and parents about daily happenings/announcements that need to be made. Students and parents will get these via text message or the Remind App (app not required to receive information). Each class has a specific code. Link to the instructions for sign up and Remind Codes: Remind Codes
In Class Voice Lessons – We have a number of highly qualified private voice teachers that teach private lessons during our classes at South. These are not required but are highly encouraged of all singers in our program. Space is limited and students are assigned with a teacher on a first come first serve basis. Students will not be assigned unless a form has been turned in. These forms can be turned in to Mr. McLean via email or in class. Link to the Voice Lesson Packet: 2017-2018 Voice Lesson Packet.
Teacher Contact Information – We are fortunate enough to have two Choir Directors at South Salem who work with our wonderful students. With these unique set up, each class will have a lead teacher and an assisting teacher. The names that you will see on your schedules are Ms. Jenna Hernandez (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Mr. Will McLean (email@example.com). Please contact by email or you can reach us by phone at (503) 399-3252.
We can’t wait for another great year!
We can’t wait to see all of our new and returning Saxon Choir members tomorrow at Start Up Day. We will have a table in the Upper Commons where you can:
-Meet and welcome Ms. Hernandez
-Get new members signed up and meet their directors
-Check your classes
-Audition for Collegium
-Get parent volunteers signed up for Music Day
-Get Choir Camp Info
We will be at the table from 8:00AM-12:00PM and 1:00PM-6:00PM and would love to see students and parents!
Our Fall Concert is upon us! This Thursday, October 20th at 7:30PM all of the choirs at South will be performing their first concert of the year. All students are to report to their assigned room for check in dressed and ready for the concert at 6:30PM (Southernaires call is 6:00PM) . Students are expected to be present for the entire concert as it is part of their concert exam grade and will contribute to their analysis and reflection assignment that they will have in class.
The concert cost is $3 a ticket or 2 for $5. Parents and audience members are encouraged to arrive early as we are expecting a large audience on Wednesday. Doors will open to the general public at 7:00PM and at 6:50PM for Gold Card Members (if you are interested, these will be on sale at the concert). While we will make announcements from the stage, please know that we will not allow any entrance or exit while a group is performing. It is a major distraction for our students and audience members when there is excess noise, movement, and action while there are groups on stage. All of our ensembles have worked so very hard to put this concert on and deserve to have a great audience and concert experience. So, please help us build that for them!
In the South Music Department we have a system that we use for communication, data entry/collection, financial bookkeeping and much more. This system is called CHARMS Office. Through CHARMS, you can keep up to date with contact information, financial records, communicate with directors, and access materials posted by directors and the booster club. This program enhances our communication and effectiveness as an entire organization. Below you will find instructions as how to log in. Please know that financial information is currently being uploaded into the system and may not be accurate.
2) Click “Enter/Login” in the upper right-hand corner
3) It will prompt you for your school code. Our school code is “southsalemmusic” and click “Enter Charms”

5) Your log in is complete, please update contact information.
Each student in the South Salem Music Program has been assigned a log in and password
We are incredibly proud of every student that we have here at South Salem HS. Congratulations to each student as they have gone through the rigorous audition process for next year’s choirs. Below you will find a link to the rosters. Please check meeting times for the end of the year meeting. Thank you to everyone who auditioned this year!
Our Final Concert of the school year is coming on Wednesday, June 1 at South Salem HS in the Rose Auditorium. We couldn’t be more excited to share our year’s work, achievements, and send our seniors off with one last great concert!
Due to the nature of this concert being completely full, we have split the concert into 2 different sections. The first beginning at 6:30PM and the second beginning at 7:45PM. Please note, one ticket will get you in to BOTH concerts. Please see details below for which choirs are on each concert and call times:
6:30 PM Concert (Call Time for students, 5:45PM): Southernaires, AcaFellas, Chanteuse, Statesmen, and Bella Voce
7:45 PM Concert (Call Time for students, 7:00PM): Chamber Women’s Choir and Symphonic Choir.
The Oregon Bach Festival Youth Choral Academy is accepting auditions from now until March 26. This summer academy is one of the most outstanding summer programs for high school singers and it is held in our great state! Singers work with world renowned conductors, professional and high school singers from across the country, and internationally recognized instrumentalists during this 2 week intensive program. We have been fortunate enough to have a number of students from South participate in this program each summer and we would love for more students to be aware of this excellent program. Please find details by clicking HERE If you have questions about the academy, auditioning, and recording process, please do not hesitate to contact firstname.lastname@example.org
