Learn your notes with Choral Tracks, Spotify, and iTunes

Students can learn their in-class music more quickly or ahead of time by utilizing these great resources offered to them.

Choral Tracks is a part recording service that is run by professional singer Matthew Curtis.  Matthew records each individual part (i.e. Soprano, Tenor, etc..) and puts them online for singers to learn their notes in an individual setting.  This helps students that have been out of rehearsal, are struggling with a part, or are looking for extra practice.  This site is regularly updated so keep checking for your parts!

Many of these tracks are available FOR FREE if you download Spotify (works with the free or Premium version) and search your song title with the word “Curtis” following it.  Spotify offers a web player that does not require a download, CLICK HERE. Tracks can also be purchased through iTunes or the Choral Tracks website/cell phone app for $1.  If your piece isn’t listed, Spotify and iTunes are still a great listening tool as there are tons of great choirs to listen to!  Also, check the music publisher’s website as there may be part tracks available there for free (i.e. Break of Day – John Trotta)

The following pieces being done at South are currently available with Choral Track parts and/or on Spotify for you to listen to (if it is in bold there are part tracks available through Spotify or the Choral Tracks website/app):

Grace Before Sleep – Susan LaBarr

Dwijavanthi – Ethan Sperry

Gitanjali Chants – Craig Hella Johnson

Requiem – Faure

Der Herr Segne Euch – JS Bach

Cover Me with the NIght – Andrea Ramsey

Stabat Mater, Mvmt. 1 – Pergolesi

Handbook Forms Due Date, Sight-Reading, and Reminders

Choir Handbook Contract, Medical Forms, and Fair Share Contribution are due by the end of school September 19th.  While the forms are due on this date, the class with them all turned in first will be rewarded with food.  So, get those forms turned in ASAP!  These forms can be located under the tab entitled, “Documents/Forms.”

You will notice that next week after school has been earmarked for “Sight-Reading Tutoring” on the Choir Calendar.  This is an opportunity for students that may need some extra sight-reading help in a one-on-one setting, some extra practice on their own, or would like to ask some questions about sight-reading or solfege strategies that they can use to improve.  Mr. McLean and volunteer students will be in the Choir Room after school all week to assist any student looking to improve their sight-reading skills.
