Dear South Choir Students and Parents,
Thank you for your time and dedication to choral music at South High School! We are fortunate to have a thriving, and well-supported, choir program at South. It is due to your hard work and care that we have arrived where we are today.
I am thrilled to say we are planning to take our choir program to new heights. Beginning in the fall of the 2017-2018 school year, we are adding a second choir director. Over the past few weeks, we have had several quality candidates interview with administration, district arts faculty, and South students. It was our goal to find the right fit for the South students and community, and we have met that goal.
It is my pleasure to introduce, and welcome, our new choir director, Jenna Hernandez, to the South High faculty. Ms. Hernandez comes to us from Baylor University and is a Dallas, TX native.
During her time at Baylor, Ms. Hernandez spent time assisting the Youth Chorus of Central Texas, served as the alto section leader for Bella Voce and the A Cappella Choir, and recently finished her student teaching at Colleyville-Heritage High School. Additionally, she was recognized with numerous awards and honors such as the American Choral Directors Association National Student Award, the Texas Music Educators Association Collegiate Educator Award, the Kenneth Howard Outstanding Music Education Award and Scholarship, and the Baylor University Outstanding Music Educator Award.
We could not be more excited about Ms. Hernandez joining the Saxon family and look forward to Mr. McLean and Ms. Hernandez leading our choirs to all-new heights. Thank you for your support and care!
