We are excited to be returning so many great singers and welcoming many new choir members this year at South! As we have the last three school years, we are offering voice lessons during class.
We have added some outstanding new private voice teachers and singing opportunities for singers at South. With the large number of students, it is recommenced that these forms be turned in ASAP to reserve a place in a voice studio. Students are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. To ensure your place in lessons, please review, complete, and send the Voice Lessons Packet (see below) to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. Even if you have confirmed with your instructor that you will be continuing lessons with them, you will not be scheduled until you have submitted the packet. Forms can be dropped off at the school office or scanned and emailed.
We will be holding our annual South Choir Camp from Monday, August 28 to Wednesday, August 30! This camp will be held at South and meets from 4:00PM-8:00 PM.
This camp is free and open to all South Choir members (incoming and returning) from grades 9-12. At camp we will be working on some great music, getting to know our new choir director, Ms. Hernandez, meeting fellow singers, working with voice teachers, playing some great games and getting back into the swing of things!
We will be taking a short dinner break each night and while we will have some snacks, we recommend students bring a dinner to enjoy with their peers during the break! Additionally, it is encouraged that students bring the following:
Comfortable Clothing and Footwear
Choir Friends (especially incoming students!)
We can’t wait to see all of our new and returning Saxon Choir members tomorrow at Start Up Day. We will have a table in the Upper Commons where you can:
-Meet and welcome Ms. Hernandez
-Get new members signed up and meet their directors
-Check your classes
-Audition for Collegium
-Get parent volunteers signed up for Music Day
-Get Choir Camp Info
We will be at the table from 8:00AM-12:00PM and 1:00PM-6:00PM and would love to see students and parents!

Dear South Choir Students and Parents,
Thank you for your time and dedication to choral music at South High School! We are fortunate to have a thriving, and well-supported, choir program at South. It is due to your hard work and care that we have arrived where we are today.
I am thrilled to say we are planning to take our choir program to new heights. Beginning in the fall of the 2017-2018 school year, we are adding a second choir director. Over the past few weeks, we have had several quality candidates interview with administration, district arts faculty, and South students. It was our goal to find the right fit for the South students and community, and we have met that goal.
It is my pleasure to introduce, and welcome, our new choir director, Jenna Hernandez, to the South High faculty. Ms. Hernandez comes to us from Baylor University and is a Dallas, TX native.
During her time at Baylor, Ms. Hernandez spent time assisting the Youth Chorus of Central Texas, served as the alto section leader for Bella Voce and the A Cappella Choir, and recently finished her student teaching at Colleyville-Heritage High School. Additionally, she was recognized with numerous awards and honors such as the American Choral Directors Association National Student Award, the Texas Music Educators Association Collegiate Educator Award, the Kenneth Howard Outstanding Music Education Award and Scholarship, and the Baylor University Outstanding Music Educator Award.
We could not be more excited about Ms. Hernandez joining the Saxon family and look forward to Mr. McLean and Ms. Hernandez leading our choirs to all-new heights. Thank you for your support and care!
