Our next opportunity is All-City Auditions!  Auditions are January 4 at South HS.  Information can be found in the Choir Handbook and more details will be coming out soon.  We would love to see as much blue and red representing South this year.

Statesmen and Bella Voce – OSU Field Trip Information

Bella Voce and Statesmen will be representing South HS at the Oregon State University Festival of Voices on October 30 in the LaSells Stewart Center.  This will be a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to a college campus, singers from all over the state, and grow in musical rehearsals and performances.
They will be excused from school all day and have an evening concert in Corvallis.  CLICK HERE FOR the information that has been covered with your students regarding location, itinerary, attire, what to bring etc.  Please feel free to email us if you have any questions.

Pie Sale Has Begun!

The South Music Department has opened our annual Pie Sale with the Willamette Valley Pie Company!  This has been a hugely successful sale in the past and we know that you enjoy it, too!  This is a great way for our students to raise funds into their student account for things like fair-share charges, trips, private lessons, and many other things. The sale starts now, October 3rd and runs until October 25th.   You can find extra order forms to print in CHARMS or below.  Pies will be delivered on Wednesday, November 15th.   There you will find pricing information, additional order forms, and details on each product and by following the link below (this document will be posted in Charms).  We have consistently been the number one seller of pies in the state of Oregon, so let’s keep the tradition of excellence going!

New Music Student Assignment –  If you are new to the Music Program at South, please fill out this form with a parent/guardian by Friday, September 8.  Link to Form: Information Form This information is for our communication and record keeping systems we use in the South Music Program.

Choir Handbook/Syllabus – We have a Choir Handbook that students need to review with a parent.  This includes information on uniforms, classroom expectations, and forms that must be turned in by September 20.  The forms can be found at the end of the handbook.  Link to the handbook: Choir Handbook/Form

Remind – We use the Remind App to Contact Students and parents about daily happenings/announcements that need to be made.  Students and parents will get these via text message or the Remind App (app not required to receive information).  Each class has a specific code.  Link to the instructions for sign up and Remind Codes: Remind Codes

In Class Voice Lessons – We have a number of highly qualified private voice teachers that teach private lessons during our classes at South.  These are not required but are highly encouraged of all singers in our program.  Space is limited and students are assigned with a teacher on a first come first serve basis.  Students will not be assigned unless a form has been turned in.  These forms can be turned in to Mr. McLean via email or in class. Link to the Voice Lesson Packet: 2017-2018 Voice Lesson Packet.

Teacher Contact Information – We are fortunate enough to have two Choir Directors at South Salem who work with our wonderful students.  With these unique set up, each class will have a lead teacher and an assisting teacher.  The names that you will see on your schedules are Ms. Jenna Hernandez (hernandez_jenna@salkeiz.k12.or.us) and Mr. Will McLean (mclean_william@salkeiz.k12.or.us).  Please contact by email or you can reach us by phone at (503) 399-3252.

We can’t wait for another great year!

2017-2018 Voice Lessons Packet Available

We are excited to be returning so many great singers and welcoming many new choir members this year at South! As we have the last three school years, we are offering voice lessons during class.

We have added some outstanding new private voice teachers and singing opportunities for singers at South.  With the large number of students, it is recommenced that these forms be turned in ASAP to reserve a place in a voice studio.  Students are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.  To ensure your place in lessons, please review, complete, and send the Voice Lessons Packet (see below) to mclean_william@salkeiz.k12.or.us as soon as possible.  Even if you have confirmed with your instructor that you will be continuing lessons with them, you will not be scheduled until you have submitted the packet.  Forms can be dropped off at the school office or scanned and emailed.
