On March 12 at McNary HS, our singers will have the opportunity to compete in the District Solo & Ensemble Contest. Below, you will find sign up forms for both contests. For the Solo Contest, students prepare two solo selections and perform them for a judge and for the Ensemble Contest, students prepare two pieces with a group of other South students. They will receive some feedback and remarks from the judge on the spot and also receive written feedback later. Students placing at the top of their division can qualify for the State Solo Contest, April 30 at Pacific University (Forest Grove, OR). These contests will not cost students money outside of arranging payment with their own accompanist. Please contact Mr. McLean if you have further questions.
On 1/15, Symphonic Choir will be excused from periods 6, 7 & 8 as they will be performing at the Oregon Music Educators Association Conference. Below is the schedule of events (please note that with weather and traffic, these may change slightly)
On 1/18 the Luther College Nordic Choir will be in town to do a workshop with West Salem and Symphonic Choir. The day will begin around 1, students will have dinner with the Nordic Choir at South, and a 7:00PM concert at South. this is one you will not want to miss! We are still in need of hosting students at homes on that evening (They come in pairs and can share a queen bed). They will need to be brought back to South 6:30AM-7:00AM. We are in need of room for 20 more students. Any number you are willing to offer to host helps! See the links below:
